WHAT IS A CONSULTANT?

Consultants represent a resource for teachers and students in a variety of areas (i.e., expertice in specific discplines, fields, or methods). Consultants should hold advanced degrees in the student's chosen field and have strong content and research knowledge. Consultant may serve on a student's Presentation Defense panel in April.

WHO SHOULD BE A CONSULTANT?

Consultants can be member of the community, part of local or nonlocal businesses and industries, or faculty and graduate assistants in higher education settings. 

WHAT SHOULD A CONSULTANT DO?

  • Provide feedback and guidance to students regading their choice of research questions, project goals, data collection methods, and analysis strategies when asked

  • Hold indivisual work-in-progress interveiws to explore issues and question students as necessary

  • Provide background for topics-including suggesting possible sources

  • Help students with the machanics of the research process

  • Provide general feedback to students about their papers or presentations

WHAT SHOULD A CONSULTANT NOT DO?

  • Generate research questions/project goals for students

  • Conduct or provide research or evidence for students

  • Write, revise, or amend student work

  • Provide or identify the questions a student will be asked prior to his or her defense presentation

  • Provide unsolicited help
